The Newcomerstown Public Library Back On Track Committee is stepping up efforts to raise funds through a capital campaign in light of new cuts to staff and library hours that will go into effect on May 17th. The Committee is looking for 500 "Angels" to donate $500 to the effort to raise funds to retire the library's loan and provide operating funds to maintain core services. Watch the Newcomerstown News for an open letter to community asking area residents to join together to donate funds needed to keep the library going. "This campaign will help relieve the worst of our budget crisis but will not solve the long-term reduction in library funding by the state legislature,"says Library Trustee, Sandalynn Henry. The Board plans to put a replacement levy on the November ballot to address longrange funding. To date Fundraisng efforts have raised close to $9,000 of the $261,000 needed to retire the library's mortgage and assist with operations through 2011. |
